The Person Behind the Curation
My name is Steve Riley. I’m a graphic designer, creative director, and the founder of VR Media – based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
I’ve been creating visual communications professionally since the late 1980s, starting in advertising agencies before building my own multimedia design business in 1999. Over three decades I’ve worked with software companies, luxury pool installers, theme parks, and East & Partners, one of Australia’s most respected banking research firms – producing their annual prospectuses, handbooks, and industry directories. For several years I contracted as an in-house designer at Village Roadshow Theme Parks before deciding it was time to work for myself again.
When I left Village Roadshow, I had a clear idea: rebuild VR Media as a curated affiliate platform – one that brought together the premium products I genuinely believed in, and let the commissions fund the kind of independent life I wanted to build.
The brands I feature aren’t random. Bang & Olufsen represents the intersection of acoustic engineering and sculptural design, the belief that the tools you surround yourself with should be as beautiful as they are functional. Bluetti reflects something I care about deeply: energy independence. I believe people should own their power – literally. Not be beholden to utility companies, rising bills, or grid failures. KNESKO Skin represents a different kind of independence, the ritual of investing in yourself with intention rather than convenience.
I’ve travelled extensively through the United States and Asia, where I developed a fascination with brand culture, food culture, and the way different societies celebrate quality and craftsmanship. That curiosity informs everything I recommend.
The longer ambition behind VR Media is bigger than affiliate commissions. Once the business reaches the income I need, I want to explore how emerging technology – AI, renewable energy, sustainable materials, can genuinely help people who are struggling. I’ve already written a self-help resource for people navigating abuse, financial hardship, and legal complexity. The commercial work funds the meaningful work. That’s always been the plan.
